Hey guys, welcome to Erin in Copenhagen!
You’ve either come here via my YouTube channel or maybe came across an article here on this blog, and now you’re probably wondering who’s behind it all. Who is Erin and why is she in Copenhagen?!
Well, I’m Erin and I was born in Toronto, Canada but I have since spent my life hopping all over the world. Whenever I go to a new place, I love to find out about its history, investigate the buildings around me, why everything looks the way it does… just bits of trivia and deeper context that I find traditional guidebooks so seldom include.
Once I hit university age, I spent a few years studying abroad in Odense, Denmark, where I met my now-husband – a Dane. Thus began my deep love and fascination for Denmark.
Together with my husband, we spent the next ten years or so exploring new countries from our base in London, England, before we finally welcomed our son in 2019. While for any normal couple this might act as an encouragement to finally stop moving around so much, we decided to totally uproot our lives and make a move over to Copenhagen, Denmark in 2020.
My husband was from Odense and while we’d made several brief visits and layovers in Copenhagen over the years, neither of us knew much about the city at all. He was of no help to me! So I had to learn myself.
I began researching everything I could about Copenhagen. Why are the buildings so colourful? What is there to do and see beyond Nyhavn and The Little Mermaid statue?
I started finding out so many cool things about Copenhagen – this city is filled with history and culture and fun things to do. Unfortunately, I found much of the information was either only in Danish or just really hard to find.
This meant that a lot of the coolest stuff about Copenhagen was completely locked off to those who didn’t speak Danish or had the time to research across numerous sources around the web. I began wishing there was just a space where everything was all collated together, in an easy to digest format, accessible to all, and – perhaps most importantly – shared what there was to do in the city beyond visiting Nyhavn or going shopping. Because that was all the mainstream sources seemed to recommend!
I decided to create that space myself and so, in April 2021, my YouTube channel “Erin in Copenhagen” was born – followed closely with this blog to share all the things that didn’t quite make it into a video but were equally interesting!
My goal is to create a space where I can share everything fun and interesting I find out about Copenhagen, and share the city how locals see it.
Whether you’re planning a visit to Copenhagen or are a local yourself, I hope my channel and my blog can provide an easy-to-use resource for a deeper context into the city and give you some ideas for what to do.
So come subscribe to my channel and follow along to see where I go on my next Copenhagen adventure!
